On Victory in Europe (VE) Day, Gorse Hill School proudly honoured one of the most significant moments in modern history—the end of the Second World War in Europe. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Catherine Taylor, History Lead at Gorse Hill School, shared:
“As History Lead at Gorse Hill School, I am proud to share the success of our recent VE Day celebration—a day of reflection, remembrance, and community spirit. Marking the end of the Second World War in Europe, VE Day remains an important reminder of the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today. It was moving to see our school community come together—families, children, and staff alike—to honour this moment in history.”
The event was filled with activities designed to bring the past to life. Families enjoyed traditional wartime games, a sing-along of classic songs, and interactive experiences such as the wartime picture trail and the “Where They Once Walked” map activity, which revealed stories of local soldiers—their lives, homes, and lasting legacies.
Catherine added:
“I am incredibly grateful to all our staff and families for their enthusiasm and support in making this event possible. The turnout and participation from our families showed just how meaningful it is when a community joins together to remember—and learn from—the past.”
This celebration was more than an event; it was a moment of shared remembrance and learning, ensuring that the courage and sacrifices of those who came before us are never forgotten.
