Inclusion Team

Children don’t come with a handbook, and each child can present a range of challenges, which can subsequently affect their ability to learn. The inclusion team offers practical advice and guidance on the variety of challenges parents face.

The school’s inclusion manager, Ros Ginger, works alongside the school’s learning mentors, Lisa Sims and Claire Jordan. As a team, they work together across the whole school to support children and their families. They work with children, parents, school staff, and outside agencies to find the best way forward for children who may be experiencing difficulties that affect their learning and their emotional wellbeing. They are also able to provide support for pupils to help develop academic, personal and social skills.

The learning mentors can help by:

  • Providing practical, day-to-day support, through advice and guidance, to enable children to function effectively and independently.
  • Targeting support according to need.
  • Helping remove barriers to learning, both within and outside of school.
  • Supporting transition procedures into KS1 and KS2 and links to secondary school.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and implementing strategies to improve behaviour.
  • Being aware of attendance issues and promoting good attendance.
  • Running groups to support children’s needs i.e. friendship, self-esteem, anger management, and self confidence.
  • Promoting self-discipline and socially acceptable behaviour.
  • Promote our CARE values: Courage, Appreciation, Respect, Responsibility and Excellence.

The inclusion manager and learning mentors can also offer one-to-one support for children experiencing difficulties. In some cases, the staff in school will identify children who may need help, but if you as a parent have concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Ginger to discuss your concerns.
