It’s been another busy week here at Gorse Hill – Christmas is very definitely on its way! The first exciting thing to happen this week had nothing to do with the festive season though. On Monday we had some visitors from Network Rail in our assembly who taught the children how to stay safe near the railway lines – ask your children all about it.
Tuesday was the day that Christmas really began with the Wrap Up Warm songs and carols with Years 3 and 4. The children – along with staff – bundled themselves up in their coats and gave parents a sing-song to remember outside on the playground. This was followed on Wednesday with Years 5 & 6 performing their songs. It was a brilliant way to enjoy the beginning of Yuletide and was enjoyed by everyone.
A big well done to the children who all sang beautifully and a big thank you to all the parents who were able to attend. Wednesday was also the day of our Christmas lunch which was lovingly prepared by our catering staff and the traditional Christmas dinner was delicious. As usual staff and governors served the food to the children – a special mention goes to Mrs Rouse from the office who donned a Santa hat to serve up the veg!
Yesterday was another special day for the children as they enjoyed the end of term(ish) Christmas discos. Great fun was had by all and lots of money was raised. We also spotted some excellent dancers – watch out Diversity as some of our children are hot on your heels!
Throughout the week, we’ve been able to see the tiniest tots in our school rehearsing for their Christmas productions which culminated in the Nursery Christmas plays being performed by the youngest children in school. The children were all fantastic and there were lots of very proud parents who came to watch them.
As well as all the festivities there’s also been our regular sporting fixtures to keep us going. On Tuesday there was a WHF football league game against Mountford Manor which we won 4 – 0. Good job footballers. This was followed on Wednesday by a netball friendly against Rodbourne Cheney. In Mr Montero’s own words: “We won by a lot!” Another amazing win for our netballers.
Thursday saw the WHF trampoline festival at Ridgeway. Lots of fun was had by all children who represented us and there is a special mention for Arwen in Year 3 who came 2nd – well done!
Christmas Raffle tickets are now on sale please return any stubs and money to the school office.
