This week, from November 16th to 22nd, it’s Road Safety Week. The need for a greater education on the dangers of the road is supported by some shocking statistics. According to the road safety charity, Brake, every 20 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured on our country’s roads.
The theme for this year’s awareness week is: ‘No Need to Speed’. Encompassed in this theme is the importance of sticking to speed limits and driving safely in populated areas. As a school, we are fully behind the campaign. By talking to our children about potential dangers we are able to help them develop the right attitude toward road usage as they grow up.
Road Safety Week is an opportunity for children to gain an education on the risks of the road. It is with this education that the shocking statistics regarding child fatalities can be decreased. There remains a commitment toward safety at Gorse Hill Primary School that will continue long after the end of this week.
