Principal - Welcome Back!

Welcome back!

It gives me great pleasure on behalf of all the staff to welcome you all back to Gorse Hill this September. It is always an exciting time in school and the children have all settled in well. My priority this term is to continue to build upon the schools successes and to continue to ensure that Gorse Hill is a happy and welcoming school.

A little bit about learning…
We want to provide the best learning experience possible and hope that our exciting curriculum achieves this. The ‘big question’ approach means that all children will be learning about a similar theme at the same time. We hope this will enable you to discuss the learning at home as a family.

To start a big question the children will experience a whole school ‘Super Starter’ activity which is an event that will ignite their interest and give them a taster of what is to come! We have added these to the key dates so please ask them what they have been up to! During the topic the children will experience a ‘Marvelous Middle’ which may be a trip a visitor or another enrichment activity.

Although we want to offer as much as possible we appreciate that this can become expensive. As a school we will ensure that the total amount for each term will never be more the £20.

Our ‘Excellent Endings’ give you a chance to join your children either altogether or on their classrooms for an activity. Sometimes these activities will be in the morning (9:00 start) and sometimes in the afternoon (2:00 start). These activities we last an hour and we will be asking parents to help us by completing a sign-up sheet nearer each event.

We understand the communication is key to the successfully running of any school. Here are a few of the ways you can expect us to communicate with you.

Key dates- This will give you advance warning of what’s coming up- please turn over to see this terms.

Weekly updates- This celebrates what has happened during the week

Big question newsletters- These give you an overview of the current whole school topic and some suggestions of how to enrich the children’s learning.

We are going to trial sending all letters home on a Friday. This has proved successful at other schools and helps parents to know when to expect information home.

Finally…We would like to wish everyone a fantastic start to the school year and please come in to see us if you have any questions.
