We have just had our second day at school. We have seen four amazing maths lessons, including one open lesson, which takes place in a lecture theatre with teachers all around the area coming to watch. We then discussed what we could learn from the lesson.
We have been in awe of the depth in which teachers are able to discuss and plan their lessons in minute detail to ensure deep learning. They really insist on understanding and precise definitions of the rules before any memorisation.
We’ve also had a look at the practice books that the children use, which incorporate variation really well into the exercises. Examples are carefully chosen to draw out the precise learning that the teachers want from the lesson.
I took a picture of today’s school lunch – we are being well fed and the Chinese teachers are impressed with our ability to use chopsticks!
We have also today had a Kung Fu demonstration and yesterday experienced playtime activities!
