Gorse Hill is a non-selective, non-denominational, two-form entry primary academy. We have a maximum class size of 30 pupils and at full-capacity 520 pupils will attend the school and nurseries.
Each class has a fully qualified teacher and teaching assistant to support pupils learning and pastoral care. They will know every pupil in great detail and plan individual steps in learning. Our deputies oversee the plans, extension strategies, and activities for more able pupils and pupils who are in receipt of pupil premium. Our SENCO leads a team of SEN teaching assistants who support pupils with special educational needs (SEN), and our EAL coordinator ensures that children who are learning English as an additional language receive appropriate teaching.
We also have two learning mentors, Liz Galvin and Lisa Sims, who work closely with Mrs Ginger, our inclusion manager, to help children with their emotional needs.
At the start of the school day, providing it is not raining, all class teachers and members of the senior leadership team are on the playground from 8:30 am to 8:35 am when the bell rings. This is the ideal opportunity for parents to ‘touch base’ with the teachers and clarify any concerns they may have.
If you wish to speak to Deborah Marklove, Principal, or any of the other leaders within the school, feel free to contact them through the school office on 01793 523800 or use our contact form.
